MIT Asian Dance Team presents Inspirasian!

Have an upcoming event you would like to see advertised on the SAO blog?  Email Joel at joelp@mit.edu to make it happen!

The MIT Asian Dance Team (MITADT) presents Inspirasian: A Boston-Wide Asian Performance Arts Festival! Inspirasian is a collaboration of semi-professional and student organizations aiming to promote Asian performance arts to MIT and the Greater Boston Area.

Not only do we, as MITADT, perform our own traditional (Tibetan, Xinjiang pieces) and hip-hop (K-pop pieces by DBSK, EXO, T-ara, Wondergirls) dances, but we also showcase a variety of performances from groups such as MIT Syncopasian, Lion Dance, Dance Revelasian, the Wang YMCA organization, and more.

This year, Inspirasian 2013 will be held on Sunday, May 5th, from 4-6pm in Kresge Auditorium at MIT.

Tickets can be purchased HERE!

Updating from the Boston Marathon

As everyone has heard and seen, on Monday, April 15th, Patriot’s Day here in Boston, 2 bombs exploded near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.  As of right now, three people have been confirmed dead, and more than 170 people have been reported as injured, some critically.

This was a nightmare situation for our community and city, that such a triumphant and inspiring race should end with tragedy and sorrow.  As MIT students, staff, and faculty, we have such a unique opportunity to experience a historical and exciting city like Boston, and that opportunity was violated on Monday.  It is the hope of this office and the greater MIT community that we can grow stronger from these events, and that Boston can grow closer as a community and support our fellow citizens more than ever before.

There are a number of resources available to our community members, including expert counseling services through MIT Medical.   Additionally, we ask that our community keeps each other safe and stays vigilant- if you see anything suspicious happening on campus, please contact the MIT Police at (617) 253-1212.

If you are looking for an opportunity to reflect on the events of this week, please feel free to join MIT SMASH (Students at MIT Allied for Student Health) and MIT Administrators on Kresge Oval from 5-6pm today to come together as a community and write notes of support for first responders and victims of the Marathon attacks.

If you are unsure of how to process these events in any way, please contact MIT Medical or staff in MIT Student Outreach and Support.  We have around a month or so left of school this year, and we want to make sure we can help in any way to make it a strong finish.

Springtime = Awards Time!

As we quickly come up on the end of another academic year, it is time to take a moment and reflect on all that we have done: the programming, the work on developing our membership, and the relationships built with members of the MIT community.

The Student Activities Office and the Office of Multicultural Programs is happy to help recognize those students, staff, faculty, and organizations who have contributed to the MIT experience this year.  There are two upcoming opportunities to recognize those people you feel are deserving of campus-wide and community recognition for their hard and dedicated work.

The Office of Multicultural Programs is very excited to announce it’s Inaugural Multicultural Programs Banquet! This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the great work members of our campus community/student organizations are doing to foster a campus that celebrates and affirms individuals from all backgrounds.

Make sure you learn more about what awards exist and then nominate someone for these awards by April 22nd at 5pm at this link!

The Student Activities Office and Division of Student Life are currently taking nominations for the Student Leader Awards!  There are awards for both individuals and groups, and you can find out more information here.  Make sure you get your nominations in for SLA by April 26th!

We look forward to seeing your nominations, and we look forward to recognizing the awesome work that MIT community members have been doing this year!

We’ll try and keep our award presenters on top of things… we promise.
