LeaderShape at MIT: An IAP Must!

The time has come again to get yourself ready for the experience that is LeaderShape!

An international organization with opportunities and programs on college campuses everywhere, LeaderShape takes the discussion around leadership beyond whether you are President or Secretary, beyond “Do we have the budget to order Pad Thai for 200 people?,” beyond any awards ceremony.  LeaderShape is an experience that will help you discover, put into words, hone, plan for, and get absolutely pumped for your own personal vision of leadership and the positive change you want to bring to the world!

DON’T BE THIS CHILD! Take change into your own hands and create your own vision for leadership that may change the world!

LeaderShape is an intensive 6-day leadership development and community-building program over IAP each year.  Join MIT faculty and staff and 70 of your fellow undergraduates for this incredible experience!

Applications are now open at web.mit.edu/leadershape – so, go, click on the link now and apply… now!

The SAO does not recommend typing DWIGHT in repeatedly on your application to LeaderShape. That isn’t very leader-y.

LeaderShape will be held January 16th-21st, 2015, over IAP and transportation to the retreat location is provided from campus!

The Application Deadline is November 7th, which is like soon, so… like… get on it.  Again, apply here: web.mit.edu/leadershape

Info sessions to prepare attendees will be held on November 17th and Dec 3rd, but more info provided on those to folks who apply by November 7th!

We hope to see you at LeaderShape!

A Leadership Experience for First-Year and Sophomore Students!

Emerging Leaders Conference can help you find out!

Emerging Leaders Conference can help you find out!

Welcome to our new First-Year students and welcome back to our Sophomores!  We hope the first week of classes has treated you well, and you are all settling in for what should be an eventful year.

Many of you may be looking to get involved, or are looking for that next step in your involvement, or are looking for an opportunity to reflect on the work you have done thus far while here at MIT.  The Student Activities Office wants to be a partner in that process with you, and offers the Emerging Leaders Conference as an exclusive opportunity for first-year and sophomore students to learn more about leadership, their own personal style of leadership, and where that can take them here at MIT and beyond!

The Conference takes place at the Endicott House from September 27th-28th, with transportation to this great off-campus retreat location provided.

Interested students can register to attend here: http://studentlife.mit.edu/sao/leadership/elc, but only the first 30 who apply will be accepted – after that, folks will be placed on a wait-list, so register soon!

The SAO wants to be sure you have every opportunity to excel, grow, and challenge yourself both inside and outside the classroom, lab, or dorm during your time here at MIT, and the Emerging Leaders Conference is a great first step on that path!

Spots still available for CCLP!

A partnership between the Student Activities Office and the Alumni Association, the Community Catalyst Leadership Program is an outstanding opportunity for MIT sophomores who want to gain leadership skills and also develop mentoring relationships with alumni coaches.
The Community Catalyst Leadership Program (CCLP) asks participants to engage in a journey of personal leadership development and reflection. Each participant is paired with an MIT alumnus/a in a coaching relationship designed to meet each student’s personal development goals.
This program is open to any member of the sophomore class, regardless of prior participation in leadership opportunities at MIT, so whether you are just starting out on your leadership journey or are involved in multiple student organizations, CCLP is a great opportunity to grow skills that will benefit you at MIT and beyond.

Applications now available! To apply and find out more about the program, visit the website at   http://alum.mit.edu/students/cclp.

Get your FEAST on!

No, we aren’t talking about Thanksgiving next week – we are talking about the THE FEAST!

Hosted by the Office of Multicultural Programs and the Student Activities Office, The Feast will feature food from a variety of local vendors that represent a wide array of cultures and culinary style.  There will be student performances from some of our very own cultural groups on campus, entertainment you will surely not want to miss!  There will also be a chance to win a gift card to some of the restaurants who will be providing food that evening.

We can’t wait to see everyone this Thursday from 4pm – 6pm on the 3rd Floor of W20!

Thank you to all the students, grad staff, staff, and vendors who are making this exciting event happen!

Sign up for LeaderShape soon!

MIT’s annual Independent Activities Period will be upon us again before you know it, and with so many awesome activities and opportunities you can take part in, make sure LeaderShape is on your list of options to check out!

Our Director, Leah Flynn, wrote about last year’s MIT LeaderShape experience, and is very excited to invite MIT undergraduate students to apply to the 2014 MIT LeaderShape Institute!

Why should you attend?  Well, apart from the fact that LeaderShape has been inspiring and helping students create their own leadership vision since 1995 at MIT, the Institute is one the best opportunities to engage in discussions about leadership, personal goals, and crafting a plan to turn ideas into reality that will help shape the world around you.

And did we mention it is FREE?

Use all that money you saved by going to MIT LeaderShape Institute on all the fabulous hair product you want!

Applications are due next week, Friday November 9th, and the Institute itself takes place January 17-22, 2014.

Still not convinced?  Check out some of these quotes from previous attendees:

“This was hands-down one of the best experiences of my life.  I feel both inspired and empowered to find my own style of leadership, and take it to affect positive change in my community.  Every MIT student should do this.” ~ LS participant
“No classroom can teach what I learned at LeaderShape.  I still find myself looking back at it as the most valuable experience at MIT.” ~ LS participant
“LeaderShape changed how I view the world and people in it.” ~ LS participant

We hope to see you in January!
