Have a safe and fun Spring Break!

By virtue of our semester schedule, it seems like you all are off to Spring Break later than your peers at other institutions, but that’s alright… Hopefully it is warmer than Boston by now in other locales around the globe.

We here at the Student Activities Office, along with our friends in Community Development and Substance Abuse , wanted to wish you all a safe, enjoyable, AND relaxing Spring Break!

Here are some resources and tips to remember as you venture forth on your adventures next week:
From our colleagues at Boston College
Make a plan. Think about what actions you need to take in order to have a successful stress-free trip. Write down your goals and make a timeline of deadlines.
Know your limits with alcohol. If you will be drinking during your spring break be sure to consume alcohol in a low-risk way. Avoid drinking games and binge drinking, which can make it difficult to keep track of your alcohol consumption. Never drink and drive and always eat prior to drinking.
Protect your skin. Don’t forget to pack and use sunscreen with spf 15 or higher, especially if you are going to a sunny destination. Prevent yourself from the dangers of skin cancer and premature aging by wearing sunglasses with UV ray protection and protective clothing such as hats and cover-ups.
Have fun. Whether it is reconnecting with family or engaging in fun activities with friends, participate in activities that make you happy and that will reenergize you

This comes from the great folks at the Bacchus Network
• Remember, impairment begins with the first drink. Choose not to drink if you are driving, or be safe with a designated driver.
• Wear your seatbelt. Always. It’s your best protection in a crash.
• Distracted driving is dangerous. Park the car to check mobile devices.
• Respect other peoples’ right, and your own, to choose not to drink.
• Respect state laws and campus policies.
• Stay out of dangerous situations involving alcohol, whether in a car, bar or bedroom.
• If a friend drinks to the point of passing out, alcohol poisoning is a real danger. If you’re concerned, seek medical attention. Better safe than sorry!

And then finally, the CDC has some good Spring Break resources as well.

We look forward to seeing you all when you get back for that final sprint to the end of the year!
